M&A

Strategy

FlyFive experience of competitive strategies in aviation markets brings a valuable independent perspective and additional insight to the process of developing and executing a successful M&A strategy

As in many industries, aviation and aerospace markets have been reshaped over the last few decades by significant volumes of acquisitions and mergers. This pace is likely to continue, particularly where previously successful aviation and aerospace businesses have suffered significant impact and challenges post COVID.

As with any form of M&A activity, the strategy behind any proposed deal needs to be very carefully assessed and all likely scenarios fully understood. Rarely does M&A go strictly to plan, but the better the understanding of each company's market standing, their value proposition, areas of competitive advantage and strategic opportunity, the more likely it is that any projections on how the businesses can come together for added benefit will be accurate.

'That great strategic fit' that post-deal news releases love to project, is rarely reality.  There will inevitably be internal and external challenges, issues bringing different cultures and systems together and problems caused by very different market perceptions and concerns. The major opportunity to add value, often missed, is to stand back, fully understand the strengths and weaknesses of both organisations, particularly in relation to their markets and market perceptions, and to assess the opportunities to build a new combined organisation that seizes upon new opportunities and discards past weaknesses, whether real or perceived. Maximum strength will come when all stakeholders recognise there is an altogether stronger overall proposition than either business could have previously offered.

FlyFive strongly believe that M&A activity can benefit significantly from an independent perspective, fresh insight and new ideas, unencumbered by internal bias or misconception.

Our services normally fall into one or more of the following three areas :-

Market assessment and the identification of potential M&A opportunities

Verifying market performance, perceptions and standing during due diligence

Post deal to identify and assess the strategic opportunities to bring the businesses together for max value
