Aviation
Making aviation sustainable is no longer a choice. Businesses will grow or decline based on competitive offers and positioning. FlyFive will help you develop new opportunities and build robust strategies
Commercial aviation's contribution to harmful global emissions may only now be 3% of the global total, but this percentage will rise dramatically over the next 20 years as other polluting industries more rapidly, and at lower cost, clean up their emissions.
Aviation has a roadmap to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, but this necessitates major investment and the development of new technology airliners and propulsion systems, not likely to enter service before 2035. The technological challenge for the aerospace industry and aviation is, therefore, immense.
In the interim, electrically propelled small eVTOL flying taxis and small electric commuter aircraft will lead the way and begin to make a small difference, as will the increasing use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and ongoing technological developments by airframe and engine OEMs.
There is no doubt, therefore, that aviation will face major challenges from increasing public and government pressure on emissions and carbon footprint. In our opinion campaigns like 'Flygskam' or 'Flight Shaming' will gain momentum, damaging aviation revenues at a time when COVID has already caused major upheaval.
From a strategic perspective, many aviation and aerospace businesses will need to rapidly establish stronger and more credible sustainability credentials to compete effectively, particularly as the legitimacy of carbon-offset programmes has already been significantly challenged.
We believe that sustainability must quickly become a critical part of business competition strategy. Businesses that directly or indirectly contribute to the emissions challenge will need to continually re-assess how they are positioned in their markets and respond accordingly. For many this will be a major challenge, but some will turn it into a significant opportunity.
Whether you are an aircraft operator, a service provider, an OEM or part of the aviation supply chain, FlyFive are here to assist businesses in dealing with this overwhelmingly important strategic issue.
FlyFive's core strategic services include Competitive Strategy as well as Business Development Strategy and M&A Strategy.
