Urban Air

Mobility

Electric Flight and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) will change the way we travel, creating major new markets and opportunities. FlyFive will help you better understand these opportunities and develop winning strategies

Electric propulsion, automation, artificial intelligence and lightweight structures are combining to create the completely new aviation market. A new global transport market that has been forecast to be worth potentially $1.0bn usd by 2035.

Over 200 companies worldwide are now developing eVTOL urban flying taxis and approximately 20 more are developing small fixed-wing electric commuter aircraft for inter-urban sub-regional transport.

Seen increasingly as a new technology sector, the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) sector is now attracting major investment, to the extent that there are now start-ups, major aerospace companies, global car manufacturers and also leading technology companies all vying for future supremacy. The first eVTOL flying taxis are already flying and commercial services could start by 2025;  fixed-wing electric commuter potentially sooner, because of fewer technical challenges.

The future vision is one of on-demand eVTOL flying taxis moving people rapidly within our cities, and those cities being connected by a network of electric commuter aircraft services. Completely zero emissions and, over time, totally autonomous.

The technological challenges of designing and developing these aircraft are being overcome, but there are major challenges still to be overcome before large scale commercial operations can commence.  Regulatory and certification issues, ground infrastructure, air traffic management, environmental concerns and public acceptance are all a major focus.

It is also clear that UAM projects will require new eco-systems and major collaboration between many stakeholders. Countries, cities, infrastructure companies, energy suppliers, aviation regulators and many others have recognised UAM's full potential, and are now looking to capitalise on this very exciting aviation opportunity.

FlyFive have been active in UAM for a number of years and already have significant helicopter, heliport and aircraft operating experience. We are very excited by UAM's potential and its sustainability credentials, whilst fully understanding the major challenges and barriers that still need to be overcome.
